Gli stereotipi di genere e il sessismo, la discriminazione basata su fattori quali etnia, classe sociale, disabilità, orientamento sessuale o sessualità, sono fertilizzanti che alimentano da sempre odio e diseguaglianza.
L’ambizione di voler combattere le categorizzazioni di genere in maniera concreta, rafforzando non solo le attività formative, a ogni livello d’istruzione, ma anche quelle artistiche, sono procedure che l’essere umano prova ormai da tempo a mettere in campo e, per fortuna, sempre più spesso con esiti positivi.
Ecco perché vi raccontiamo del live presentato il 6 settembre alla St. Marienkirche, dietro Alexanderplatz, una delle chiese più antiche di Berlino e luogo di alcune registrazioni dell’album “The Beast Within” prodotto dall’artista brasiliano Diego Garcia, già fondatore dell’etichetta techno queer VRAAA, e co-fondatore del collettivo Pornceptual, che da cinque anni ormai esplora la pornografia come forma d’arte organizzando eventi in tutto il mondo.
L’impegno sociale dell’artista è uno degli elementi fondanti nella realizzazione della performance “The Beast Within”, tanto che parte dei proventi è stata destinata a Casa Florescer, un rifugio per omosessuali in Brasile specializzato nell’aiuto alle donne trans, e a Ukraine Pride, organizzazione volta al sostegno del popolo queer ucraino. E forte è il suo desiderio di rappresentare tutti, indistintamente, tanto che la troupe impiegata dietro le quinte è formata da donne, uomini, immigrati, persone di colore, trans e queer.
La location, storicamente dedicata al raccoglimento spirituale, viene caratterizzata dalla presenza del coro queer Canta:re diretto da Frau Uta von Willer, e la magia dell’acustica dell’antica cattedrale gotica si mescola all’artifizio irriverente della musica elettronica, restituendoci atmosfere a metà tra il sacro e il profano, tra la luce come fonte divina e l’oscurità.
Così anche i costumi di scena realizzati da Aliata Fana e Mariana Novais e il set up audio / luci, conferiscono alla totalità dell’opera una percezione visiva e acustica profondamente mistica e introspettiva, in cui Diego esplora le identità di genere nella musica elettronica contemporanea attingendo alle sue due identità artistiche: The Princess of Death, la sua identità femminile – che esplora le trame introspettive e corrosive comunemente associate ai valori patriarcali – e Projekt Gestalten, la sua identità maschile – in cui i suoni melodici e ipnotici spesso associati al matriarcato sono al centro della scena.

The Beast within LIVE – Diego Garcia

Gender stereotypes and sexism, discrimination based on factors such as ethnicity, social class, disability, sexual orientation or sexuality, are fertilizers that have always fed hatred and inequality.
The ambition to combat gender categorizations in a concrete way, strengthening not only training activities, at all levels of education, but also artistic ones, are procedures that human beings have been trying for some time now to implement and, fortunately, more and more often with positive outcomes.
That’s why we tell you about the live presented on September 6th at St. Marienkirche, behind Alexanderplatz, one of the oldest churches in Berlin and place of some recordings of the album “The Beast Within” produced by Brazilian artist Diego Garcia, founder of the queer techno label VRAAA, and co-founder of the collective Pornceptual, which for five years now has been exploring pornography as an art form by organizing events around the world.
The social commitment of the artist is one of the founding elements in the realization of the performance “TheBeast Within”, so much so that part of the proceeds was allocated to Casa Florescer, a shelter for homosexuals in Brazil specialized in helping trans women, and Ukraine Pride, an organization aimed at supporting the queer Ukrainian people. And strong is his desire to represent everyone, indistinctly, so that the crew employed behind the scenes is made up of women, men, immigrants, people of color, trans and queer.
The location, historically dedicated to spiritual recollection, is characterized by the presence of the queer choir Canta:re directed by Frau Uta von Willer, and the magic of the acoustics of the ancient gothic cathedral is mixed with the irreverent artifice of electronic music, restoring atmospheres halfway between the sacred and the profane, between light as a divine source and darkness.
So also the costumes made by Aliata Fana and Mariana Novais and the audio / lights set up, give the whole work a visual and acoustic perception deeply mystical and introspective, in which Diego explores gender identities in contemporary electronic music drawing on his two artistic identities: The Princess of Death, his feminine identity – exploring the introspective and corrosive textures commonly associated with patriarchal values – and Projekt Gestalten, his male identity – in which the melodic and hypnotic sounds often associated with the matriarchy are at the center of the scene.
